Children must turn five years of age by 30th April to be eligible to attend school.

Our school zone:

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined based on your permanent residential address.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

The Department of Education has released an updated statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline for the 2026 school year.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Moonee Ponds West Primary School.

All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2025 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2026 school year.

You can find information and resources about the timeline, including factsheets and a poster at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep). You can also download the ‘Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers’ from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from 22 April 2025).

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Moonee Ponds West Primary School from 22nd April 2025.

What you need to do:

1. Contact our school to book a school tour or to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.
2. Download the Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from 22 April 2025). This pack includes an application form, which you can also request from our school.
3. Submit an enrolment application for Foundation (Prep) by Friday 25 July 2025.
4. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 28 July and Friday 8 August 2025. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 22 August 2025.
5. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2025.
6. Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Wednesday 28 January 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after 25 July 2025 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.

SCHOOL TOURS

Our enrolment tours for Foundation students beginning in 2026 will commence on the 11 of February 2025. Tours will be conducted by the Principal or delegate and will be held twice weekly, please see the tour dates below.

What are the average class sizes for Foundation students?

The average class numbers for students in Foundation One classes is 21 students

Multi Age structure

At MPW we operate a multi age structure. Our 2023 class structure is:

• Foundationx 3
• Grade 1/2 x 4
• Grade 3/Grade 4 x 4
• Grade 5/Grade 6 x 3

Buddies:

Foundation grades are allocated a 5/6 grade to buddy up with. The individual teachers from each of the grades create opportunities such as reading and snacks together. This provides a point of call and peer support for Foundation students.

Specialist Programs available at MPW:

• Lote – Japanese is the Language Other Than English (LOTE) that is offered at MPW. It is taught to all year levels from Foundation to Grade 6. All children attend Japanese classes for 1 hour per week.  Students in Years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to participate in a biannual tour to Japan, where students have the opportunity to experience a homestay with students from our Japanese sister school.
  
  
• PE –All students participate in at least a 1 hour P.E. session each week with the P.E. Specialist covering such areas as fundamental motor skills, ball skills, gymnastics, dance, fitness work, athletics, games and sports.
  
  
• Hall Program – The Hall Program is offered to students in Foundation to Grade 2. The Hall Program is an oral language and developmental play program. Developmental play is an important component in childhood development.  Children learn through experiencing and experimenting with language. Oral language and social skills are developed through shared experiences. Children engage with their peers negotiating, comparing, sharing, describing and problem solving in a stimulating environment.
  
  
• Creative Arts –The Creative Arts Program is offered to all students from Foundation to Grade 6. Our Creative Arts program at MPW incorporates Singing, Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts including 3-dimensional works.

Student Wellbeing at MPW:

The Rights and Responsibilities framework underpins all student well-being and learning at MPW. All students have the right to learn, feel safe, respected, and included at MPW. Each class develops its Rights and Responsibilities in Term One and they are then published and referred to.

Transition:

Transition for 2025 Foundation students will occur over two sessions held on the 17th and 24th of October 2025. Whilst students are in their transition sessions, parents are invited to attend information sessions where they will hear more about our educational programs.

Our uniform is sold by Lowes online and is also available in store at Lowes, Airport West.

Out-of-zone applications:

Our enrolment policy at MPW states that we follow the process of acceptance of enrolment:

2. Students residing within our enrolment zone
3. Out of Zone enrolment applications subject to enrolment capacity

OSHC:

Camp Australia operates us before and after-school program at MPW. Foundation to Grade 1 students are escorted to and from the OSHC program facilitated on-site in our school gym.

Parental involvement:

Parental involvement is encouraged at MPW whether it is by participating in School Council, assisting in classrooms as a parent helper, or any o,f our working groups or committees. MPW is an inclusive school with a very engaged community.
