Children must turn five years of age by 30th April to be eligible to attend school.

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.
Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined based on your permanent residential address.
Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

The Department of Education has released an updated statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline for the 2026 school year.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Moonee Ponds West Primary School.
All government primary schools will follow the timeline in 2025 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2026 school year.
You can find information and resources about the timeline, including factsheets and a poster at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep). You can also download the ‘Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers’ from Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) (available from 22 April 2025).
You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Moonee Ponds West Primary School from 22nd April 2025.
What you need to do:
Enrolment applications submitted after 25 July 2025 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.

SCHOOL TOURS
Our enrolment tours for Foundation students beginning in 2026 will commence on the 11 of February 2025. Tours will be conducted by the Principal or delegate and will be held twice weekly, please see the tour dates below.

What are the average class sizes for Foundation students?

Multi Age structure
At MPW we operate a multi age structure. Our 2023 class structure is:
Buddies:
Foundation grades are allocated a 5/6 grade to buddy up with. The individual teachers from each of the grades create opportunities such as reading and snacks together. This provides a point of call and peer support for Foundation students.

The Rights and Responsibilities framework underpins all student well-being and learning at MPW. All students have the right to learn, feel safe, respected, and included at MPW. Each class develops its Rights and Responsibilities in Term One and they are then published and referred to.
Transition:
Transition for 2025 Foundation students will occur over two sessions held on the 17th and 24th of October 2025. Whilst students are in their transition sessions, parents are invited to attend information sessions where they will hear more about our educational programs.

OSHC:
Camp Australia operates us before and after-school program at MPW. Foundation to Grade 1 students are escorted to and from the OSHC program facilitated on-site in our school gym.

Parental involvement:
Parental involvement is encouraged at MPW whether it is by participating in School Council, assisting in classrooms as a parent helper, or any o,f our working groups or committees. MPW is an inclusive school with a very engaged community.
